Reigate Dance Matters in 2018

dance opportunities reigate

Reigate Dance Centre has many important events in 2018 for their children. Whether you child wants to dance in the holidays or wants to be involved in local or London based performances, Reigate Dance Centre has something for everyone. Although many exams take place in our "non-big show year", we still have a great deal of performance activities and extra classes on offer for those wishing to perform.

We know dance and the performing arts aids in children's development in a multitude of ways, and adding the extension of performing to an audience is key to their confidence building and interaction. Take a peek at our performance events coming soon:

1. I.S.T.D. BALLET EXAMINATIONS

Ballet exams will be during Easter, and the classes will be working hard to prepare all the candidates. Please be aware there are 2 venues (one for each day). The dates are:

  • 28th March - Reigate Community Centre

  • 29th March - Colman Redland Centre

Details about times of exams will be given out by letter nearer the time.

2. 3rd YEAR DANCING with PASHA KOVALEV SHOW

Oh Yes! The music has just arrived and our teachers will be showing the given choreography to the children very soon. We are so privileged to be asked for the 3rd year, to accompany the BBC Strictly star on stage and dance alongside him to start his UK tour. Our performance will be on:

THURSDAY 15th MARCH. Details regarding rehearsals will be going out the first week of term.

3. EASTER PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL

We are now offering a 2 day Easter School for reception age up to and including year 6). Like our successful Summer Schools, these days will be packed full of activities - many styles of dance routines, singing/acting, acrobatics and arts and craft.

  • Wednesday 11th April - 10am - 4.00pm (Reigate Community Centre behind Morrisons)

4. ROYAL ALBERT HALL PERFORMANCE

50 of our pupils will perform at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in May. This exciting, challenging and grand event (dancing in the round), will be a fantastic opportunity for our children and a memory of a lifetime. This will be the 3rd time the school has performed at this venue, and this year, we will be taking some of our younger pupils. letters will be given out in class.

  • Sunday 27th May

5. REIGATE ST MARY's SCHOOL JOINT SHOW

For the first time, RSM have asked us to be a part of their first ever dance show, and we are thrilled at the prospect of joining forces, culminating in a 1 night show at the Harlequin Theatre on Friday 15th June. Looking forward to it!

5. CLASS ACT - SCHOOLS INITIATIVE THEATRE ARTS PROJECT

Class Act - Reigate Dance Centre

Now in it's 3rd year, our 'Class Act' show will be inviting local primary schools to show off their singing, dancing and acting pieces in front of a packed Harlequin Theatre in Redhill. The show has 2 purposes:

1. to give local primary schools the opportunity to perform on a large professional stage,

2. to raise money for promoting the arts within our local primary schools,

3. to allow Reigate Dance Centre non-syllabus classes (those not taking exams) another avenue to perform their work - commercial street dance, modern jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, and acro dance classes

Class Act is unique in that it raises money for the arts in schools. Through the proceeds of the ticket sales, every participating school receives a share of the profits to further promote future artistic projects in their own establishments. This year, Class Act will perform over 2 nights:

  • WEDNESDAY 13th June - Harlequin Theatre Redhill

  • THURSDAY 14th June - Harlequin Theatre Redhill

Schools participating this year are:

1) Holmesdale School

2) Kingswood School

3) St Matthews School

4) Furzefield School

5) Merstham Primary

6) St John's School

7) St Joseph's School

8) Reigate Parish School

9) Reigate Priory School

6. FULL-SCALE PRODUCTION

For the first time in the history of the school, we will be staging our own full-scale Musical this year. As our Starlight Musical theatre course is growing, and with many pupils wanting to combine their dancing with singing and acting, this extra event was inevitable. Auditions will be offered to ANYONE having dance or performing arts classes at RSB (age restrictions will apply depending on the show - dates and further details will be announced when confirmed).

This is such an exciting development we cannot wait to start. Please follow our facebook page regularly for details.
